About

- Jen Dodds -

I left Newfoundland in my early 20s to move to England, and although I lived, built a career, created a family there, the draw to move back to Newfoundland was always present. The pandemic caused chaos in many parts of our lives but I am thankful that it brought me back home.

My first career that spanned almost 10 years was in Wildlife Conservation where I was lucky enough to travel all over the world focusing on the health and well being of animals and their environment. In many ways this was the dream job but it was also very demanding and stressful. I started practicing The Pilates Method as a way to calm my brain and focus on my own well-being. This connection of mind and body, that Pilates offers, interested me enough to become a fully qualified Pilates instructor and I opened my first Pilates studio, The Pilates Garden, in England in 2012.  Living in Oxford, the one thing that I really missed was being near the ocean. The ocean provides a sense of calm in a world that is on sensory overload. The sound, smell and sight of the sea has the power to put us in a semi meditative state, and allows for mindfulness. This is why I feel matching The Pilates Method with watching the movement of the water is the perfect experience and, I hope you agree, there is no place better to do this than Newfoundland.

Look forward to welcoming you!

Training/Experience

I have been practicing the Pilates Method for over 12 years and am fully certified with a Masters in Pilates Apparatus from JPilates Training and Education, UK.  In addition, I hold a Level 3 certification in Pilates Matwork from The Pilates Institute, London, UK and am also certified in providing pre and postnatal Pilates instruction.

My business The Pilates Garden, ran in three different locations within the UK before I sold the business to move back to Newfoundland in 2021.

Throughout my time teaching in England, I met some wonderful people and everyday learned something new about the human body and its complexity.  This is especially true when it comes to the diversity of pain, rehabilitation and the importance of movement to health and well-being.  It is this experience that I want to share with my new clients in Newfoundland.
